About Spinosaurus

Spinosaurus aegyptiacus lived approximately 95–100 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period, roaming the river systems of what is now North Africa — primarily modern-day Morocco and Egypt. Believed to be the largest carnivorous dinosaur ever to have lived, Spinosaurus could reach lengths of up to 14–15 metres and weighed an estimated 7–20 tonnes.

Unlike most large theropods, Spinosaurus was a semi-aquatic predator, spending much of its time in and around water, hunting fish and other aquatic prey. Its distinctive elongated neural spines formed a dramatic sail or hump along its back, making it one of the most visually striking dinosaurs ever discovered. Its long, narrow skull and conical teeth — much like a crocodile's — were perfectly adapted for catching slippery fish.
